What Can You Recycle Free at Tubbercurry?

The current Sligo County Council price list identifies three clear free household recycling streams.

WEEE electrical goods

Household waste electrical and electronic equipment is listed as free. Barna’s current material matrix includes both hazardous and non-hazardous WEEE plus white goods, fridges and freezers at Tubbercurry.

Clothes bank

The clothes bank is currently listed free. Barna also identifies clothing, footwear and textiles as accepted at Tubbercurry.

Bottle bank

Separate free material before arriving. If you mix free WEEE or textiles into a wider chargeable load, staff still need to identify and sort the different streams correctly.

Current Barna material list

Why this list is narrower than some old Tubbercurry leaflets: historic council and Barna flyers mention additional materials such as garden waste, farm plastics, construction waste and other hazardous items. Those older documents are useful background, but this guide does not present those categories as currently confirmed unless they also appear in current published information.

Items needing extra planning

Paint, Batteries, WEEE, Timber and Medicines

Paint

Current prices are €0.50 for a paint can of 5 litres or smaller and €1 for a can over 5 litres. Barna lists both hazardous and non-hazardous paint at Tubbercurry.

Batteries

Barna currently lists solid, household and lead-acid batteries as accepted at Tubbercurry. Keep batteries separate from normal mixed recyclables during transport.

Electrical goods

Household WEEE is free under the council price list. MyWaste additionally categorises Tubbercurry as a free electrical/battery recycling and lightbulb drop-off location.

Timber

Barna’s current accepted-items matrix lists both treated and untreated timber at Tubbercurry.

Human medicines

The current council charge is €1 for five items. Keep medicines separate rather than placing them in an ordinary recycling load.

Oil filters

Oil filters are accepted at a current published charge of €0.50 per item.

Vehicle restrictions

Trailer and Large-Load Rules to Check Before Driving

Barna Recycling publishes general rules for its recycling centres that are especially important if you are bringing more than a normal car load.

Domestic trailer

Load it so staff can fully inspect the contents before tipping. A covered or tightly packed load that cannot be checked may cause problems at the gate.

Agricultural or animal trailer

Barna states these are not allowed at its recycling centres except Carrowbrowne. Do not bring one to Tubbercurry.

Arrive before closing

Trailer entry stops 15 minutes before advertised closing time. Plan unloading time as well as driving time.

Large or unusual load: call 071 9186869 before travelling. A published €15 “large vehicle” price does not prove that every type or quantity of waste in a large vehicle will be accepted.

Five-step visit plan

How to Prepare for a Tubbercurry Recycling Centre Visit

1

Check that today is an opening day

The normal schedule is Thursday, Friday and Saturday only.

2

Separate the load at home

Keep cardboard, paper, plastics, textiles, WEEE, batteries, metal, timber, paint and mattresses separate where practical.

3

Work out your likely charge

Use the vehicle price plus any separate mattress, paint, medicine or oil-filter charge that applies.

4

Check trailer restrictions

Domestic trailer loads must remain inspectable, and agricultural or animal trailers should not be brought to Tubbercurry.

5

Phone about anything not clearly listed

Call 071 9186869 rather than relying on an old leaflet for an unusual or potentially hazardous waste stream.
