Roscrea Recycling Centre Charges
Tipperary County Council uses a mixture of small car-load charges, fixed item charges and tonne-based rates. Separate free recycling before arrival so it does not become part of a mixed chargeable load.
| Waste or load | Published charge | Roscrea note |
|---|---|---|
| Chargeable car load | €3 / €5 / €7 | Band depends on the load presented. |
| Small van / trailer | €18 | Large amounts may instead be weighed. |
| Standard refuse bag | €5 | For normal refuse, not prohibited waste. |
| Dry recycling bag | €1.50 | Council also lists a roll of 5 recycling bags at €2. |
| Bulky item | €12 | Call first for unusual or oversized items. |
| Single mattress | €18 | Normal published charge outside special amnesty events. |
| Double mattress | €20 | Normal published charge outside special amnesty events. |
| Metal | €40 per tonne | Larger quantities are weighed. |
| Garden waste | €80 per tonne | Garden waste is accepted at Roscrea. |
| Plasterboard | Not accepted | Do not use the general €180/tonne council rate at Roscrea. |
Price-list distinction: a council-wide rate does not mean every site accepts that material. Roscrea specifically excludes plasterboard, so do not drive there with plasterboard just because the wider price list contains a plasterboard tonne rate.

What Roscrea Recycling Centre Does Not Accept
Some items need another licensed route or another Tipperary civic amenity site. Check these before loading the car.
| Item | Roscrea position | What to do instead |
|---|---|---|
| Plasterboard | Not accepted | Check a council site that specifically accepts plasterboard before travelling. |
| Tyres | Not accepted | Tipperary County Council identifies Waller’s Lot, Cashel as its tyre-accepting recycling centre. |
| Expanded polystyrene | Not accepted | Use MyWaste or an authorised alternative route. |
| Petrol / diesel | Not accepted | Ask the council/MyWaste for the correct hazardous-waste route. |
| Oil tanks / drums | Not accepted | Use an authorised specialist waste route. |
For tyres or material Roscrea cannot take, our Cashel Recycling Centre guide explains the Waller’s Lot site and its current council rules.
Mattress Recycling at Roscrea
Under the normal Tipperary County Council price list, a single mattress is €18 and a double mattress is €20. Roscrea also participated in a temporary mattress-amnesty event during August 2026, when eligible householders could recycle up to three mattresses free.
Do not assume the amnesty is still running. The free 2026 event was date-specific. Outside a published amnesty, use the council’s normal mattress price rather than expecting free disposal.
Prepare Your Roscrea Recycling Centre Visit
Separate free recycling
Keep glass, cans, textiles, batteries, WEEE and fluorescent tubes apart from chargeable waste.
Remove prohibited items
Do not bring plasterboard, tyres, expanded polystyrene, petrol/diesel or oil tanks/drums expecting Roscrea to take them.
Estimate your load
A car load, small trailer, van load and tonne-weighed quantity can be charged differently. For a large or unusual load, call the council before leaving.
Avoid the lunch closure
Plan unloading either before 12:30pm or after 1pm. Saturday finishes at 12:45pm.
Check temporary notices
Training days, holiday schedules and special collection events can alter the normal pattern. Verify a same-day council notice if your trip matters.
Sorting and Safety Rules
Tipperary County Council’s recycling-centre guidance says unsegregated waste should be separated into recyclable and non-recyclable streams. Sorting at home makes that easier and reduces time spent reorganising a mixed boot at the site.
When travelling with children
Children should remain accompanied and supervised by an adult. Recycling centres involve moving vehicles, skips and unloading areas, so keep them away from active disposal points.
Travelling with pets
Tipperary County Council’s site guidance states that pets should remain in the car while using its recycling centres.
If Roscrea Is Not the Right Site
Tipperary County Council operates civic amenity sites at Roscrea, Nenagh, Donohill, Waller’s Lot in Cashel and Carrigeen in Clonmel. Material acceptance can differ even where opening hours and much of the price list are shared.
Use Cashel for a tyre enquiry
Waller’s Lot is the council site specifically identified for tyres. Check our Cashel Recycling Centre guide before travelling.
Need a different county or town?
Use our Ireland recycling centre guide to identify the appropriate council or MyWaste route rather than leaving rejected material at the Roscrea gate.
